TYPES OF SENTENCES GRADE 1
Two essential things human beings can do are speaking and writing. Here are Sentences Grade 1 and its types.
We use sentences to communicate with each other.
SO, WHAT IS A SENTENCE?
A sentence is a set of words that narrates or tells a story.
Example:
Peter is alive.
Structure of a Sentence
Sentences begin with capital letters.
The above sentence begins with “Peter” and not “peter”.
SENTENCES END WITH SPECIAL SYMBOLS
Sentences end with unique marks called punctuation marks like ?, ! and .
Period “.” is the most familiar punctuation mark.
All three punctuation marks produce different kinds of sentences.
There are three types of sentences used all the time.
Types of Sentences

The following are the types of Sentences Grade 1:
Statements or Telling Sentences
Statements or telling sentences explain things. They end with a period.
Example:
- Arcade games are interesting.
- She likes playing.
Question Sentences
Questions ask things. They are sentences ending with questions. ? is a question mark.
Example:
- Are you sad?
- Will you go to school or your house?
Exclamation Sentences
Exclamations display strong emotions. They end with an exclamation mark “!”.
Example:
- Look there!
- Go away!
Command Sentences
Commands inform one to do something. They end with periods.
- Come here.
They are not asking anything, so they are not questions. It is informing one to come here.
- Go to bed.
Here, it is informing one to go to bed.
